Talk Show Heart India :Love & Chocolate – A Recipe For A Delicious & healthy Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is the season for love & chocolate. Who doesn’t like getting a big red heart- shaped box of chocolates as a token of your loved one’s affection? Good news…there are health benefits to eating chocolate! However, not every chocolate in that box gives the same punch of health benefits. Make sure this Valentine’s Day you choose the healthier chocolate option to give to your loved ones.
The healthiest choice for your gift of love is Dark Chocolate.

When it comes to chocolate and the heart, the focus is on the dark stuff. Small, short-term studies suggest dark chocolate has some potential heart health benefits, including decreased blood pressure and blood clotting, increased blood vessel health, and improved LDL cholesterol.

Dark chocolate is rich in a group of antioxidants called flavanols -- believed to be the "active" ingredient that confers chocolate's cardiovascular advantage.

Talk Show Heart India :Pledge to Exercise Daily for my Healthy Heart

Exercise makes your heart stronger. Regular exercise helps it pump more blood with each heartbeat. Enhancing oxygen levels in our body. With more oxygen, body functions more efficiently.
Exercise your risk of heart disease and reduces levels of LDL (“bad” cholesterol). Bad cholesterol can clog the arteries and can cause a heart attack. At the same time, exercise can raise levels of HDL (“good” cholesterol). HDL helps protect against a heart attack by carrying fatty deposits out of the arteries.
When combined with a healthy diet, exercise can speed up weight loss. Regular exercise builds lean muscle, which burns more calories than fat.
How much exercise do I need?
If you haven’t been exercising, try to work up to 30 minutes, 4 to 6 times a week. Your doctor may recommend a different exercise regimen based on your health. Alternate exercise days with rest days or days you do a very different type of exercise. This will help prevent injuries.

Heart Talk Show India :The Good & the Bad Cholesterol

Cholesterol plays a vital role in our health & is often confused as the enemy. All types of Cholesterol are not bad for your Health. Here’s how Cholesterol works   & what really causes Heart disease.
There are two main types of Cholesterol: high-density lipoprotein (HDL) & low-density lipoprotein (LDL).

Bad  Cholesterol

LDL Cholesterol is considered the “bad” Cholesterol, because it contributes to fatty buildups in arteries (atherosclerosis). It narrows the arteries as well as increases the risk for heart attackstroke  & peripheral artery disease.

HDL (good) Cholesterol

HDL Cholesterol is considered as the “good” Cholesterol. HDL acts as a scavenger, carrying LDL (bad) Cholesterol away from the arteries & back to the liver. A healthy HDL cholesterol level may protect against heart attack & stroke.
Prevention
  • Lifestyle & diet changes are the main ways to prevent or lower high LDL.
  • Regular aerobic activity & maintain a healthy weight.
In some cases, if those lifestyle changes are not enough, your physician may suggest a Cholesterol lowering medication.
Remember, knowledge is the first step. Avoid taking any medication without doctor’s advice. If you don’t know your Cholesterol levels, get tested. That will give you & your physician a starting point for lifestyle changes & medications if needed.
So adopt a heart-healthy lifestyle, and do it with friends & family no matter their ages. There’s no time like the present to prevent Heart disease.

Heart Talk Show India : SILENT ATTACKS- IT’S LIKE A BIG MUTE BUTTON ON WHAT YOU’RE ABLE TO FEEL

Heart disease is an umbrella term which addresses the disorders that affect the structuring & functioning of the heart in some way or the other. One such Heart condition include Silent Heart Attacks.
Silent Attacks are like someone presses a big mute button on what you're able to feel. They are described as "silent" because when they occur, their symptoms lack the intensity of a classic heart attack, such as extreme chest pain, pressure; stabbing pain in the arm, neck, or jaw; sudden shortness of breath; sweating, and dizziness
Most commonly seen in Diabetes & chronic kidney disease
As very well explained by Dr Siddhant Jain in talk show of Heart. India ‘Dil Se Dil Tak Healthy Heart’ that in Diabetes, damage is microvascular & such patients develop neuropathy( Weakness, numbness & pain from nerve damage) due to which perception of pain decreases in them.
Because a Silent heart attack does not produce symptoms that cause the victim to seek medical help, the diagnosis is only made after the fact — after the damage has been done.

A fluttering heart – is it a love or an Arrhythmia

Most people are really not aware of their Heart beating. For them it generally means they do not have an Arrhythmia (an irregular heartbeat) - the heart may beat too fast, too slowly, too early, or irregularly.
It is an irregular contraction of the heart muscle caused by a problem with the heart’s electrical system.
People call these skips, flips & blips as heart palpitations or Heart flutters. But if a fluttering heart is causing a change in your lifestyle, then you immediately make an appointment with your primary care physician or Heart specialist & get it checked.

It is accompanied by following symptoms
• Sudden weight gain
• Swollen legs
• Shortness of breath
• Exhaustion

Which can be a cause for Arrhythmia or any other Heart conditions including Congestive Heart Failure or a Pulmonary embolism which requires a immediate Medical attention.

Some other symptoms are:-
• Feeling dizzy or lightheaded
• Passing out (fainting) or nearly fainting
• Feeling tired, like you can’t walk as far as you used to
• Feeling ill, like you’re getting a cold or the flu
• Changes in your blood pressure
• Changes in heart rate; speeding up (racing heart) or slowing down
Causes of Arrhythmia
a. Medications – by taking the wrong dose, forgetting to take them.
b. Stress & anxiety
c. Dehydration
d. Illness
e. By stimulants like – caffeine, tobacco & alcohol .

Electrophysiologist Dr. Aniruddha Vyas simplified the understanding about the Arrhythmia’s on the Heart Talkshow India " Dil Se Dil Tak Healthy Heart "

If your heart skips a beat then the first thing you should do is make an appointment with your primary care physician. He or she can listen to your heart to determine if there is an irregular rhythm.
A diagnosis of an irregular or abnormal heart beat isn’t all bad news. The good news is that technological advances continue to provide new opportunities to treat this condition.
